Focusing: Explore the Somatic Landscape of Your Inner Self

  • Cafe Root & Well-being Studio Unit 1, Sude Hill Mill, Penistone Road New Mill, Holmfirth, HD9 7DU United Kingdom (map)

We invite you to join Mavra on a journey into focusing and the felt sense. Mavra, a somatic practitioner amongst other things, will deliver a 2-hour workshop exploring the connection with your inner self. This workshop is ideal for individuals seeking a deeper understanding of themselves, wanting to cultivate inner belonging and inner peace. Through this workshop, you will gain insights into your inner landscape and develop self-compassion.

Focusing is the practice of allowing our bodies to guide us to deeper self-knowledge and healing. It was conceived by the major American philosopher and psychologist Eugene T. Gendlin, Ph.D. The word Focusing is not used in the conventional idea of focused attention, but as a metaphor for the process of recognising vague, subtle, or ephemeral somatic sensations that could gradually be brought into focus, as one might adjust a pair of binoculars to turn a blurry visual image into clear, recognisable objects.

The value of Focusing is that we learn to open up ourselves to the whole of our body's experience. In Focusing, we don't choose between disagreeing parts of ourselves; rather, we ask ourselves what it is like to experience all of it. Recognising the felt sense is the important first step of Focusing.

"A felt sense is body and mind before they are split apart"
