Brightening Our Inner Skies: Energetics of Yin Yoga - Yin yoga focuses on passive floor-based poses held for up to 8 minutes that allow your body to open up gradually while working with your breath and exploring sensation. It is focused on mobility rather than strength. The slow pace of Yin Yoga provides a platform for mindfulness and exploring our inner world, toning connective tissue and the organs and freeing up the flow of energy within the body and mind. The practice is built around ancient Chinese philosophy and the Chinese medical system and works to enhance Qui (life force). In this workshop we will explore the meridians (energy channels) and acupressure points and how to use Yin yoga as a tool to improve mental as well as physical wellbeing. We will also look at the role of fascia (connective tissue) in maintaining a healthy and mobile body with yin postures designed to release fascia throughout the body. Yin yoga is the perfect compliment to more dynamic practices such as Power Yoga, Ashtanga and Rocket. It is also useful for athletes where ‘strength' tends to dominate over ‘length’.
