We invite you to join our founder Mavra on an introductory journey into Focusing. Mavra, a Somatic Practitioner amongst other things, will deliver a 90-minute workshop, which will include a guided focusing session, journaling and sharing circle.
Focusing is the practice of allowing our bodies to guide us to deeper self-knowledge and healing. It was conceived by the major American philosopher and psychologist Eugene T. Gendlin, Ph.D. The word Focusing is not used in the conventional idea of focused attention, but as a metaphor for the process of recognising vague, subtle, or ephemeral somatic sensations that could gradually be brought into focus, as one might adjust a pair of binoculars to turn a blurry visual image into clear, recognisable objects.
The value of Focusing is that we learn to open up ourselves to the whole of our body's experience. In Focusing, we don't choose between disagreeing parts of ourselves; rather, we ask ourselves what it is like to experience all of it. Recognising the felt sense is the important first step of Focusing.
"A felt sense is body and mind before they are split apart"
